The Bulmers

Well, we started off with what seemed a promising cold snap and then the holidays set in and the weather grew mild. We live in Warrenton, Virginia, a bedroom community one hour west of Washington, D.C. and although we don’t reap heavy snowfalls we often have the basic cold stretches necessary for there to be man made snow so the local resorts can go to task and make snow for the winter sport buffs.
This is our second year of making snow. We have all the necessary elements needed for a great time; i.e., a long rear yard that is all “hill” surrounded by eighteen holes of open space when the golf course is closed for inclement weather, sleds, a Snow-at-Home SG-5 snowmaker and little people to praise the “snow gods”.
Our first year we ran the snow like there was no tomorrow and found the discipline of making snow is not work but all fun which resulted in this year our buying the electric, 6GPM power washer. Wow, the “snow gods” were pleased. Not having to gas up a gas powered pressure washer is added fun.
Anyway, here are this year’s stats of our “First Annual Snow Bowl” that fell on Super Bowl Sunday.
- 12 to 48 inch base
- Season total: 32 to 84 inches (no kidding at all)
- Trails Open: 1 (300 feet x 75 feet)
- Surface Conditions: Loose/Frozen Granular
- Après-ski: S’mores and chili
- Cheerful “snow gods” and little people
This coming season is already in the works!
