Paul Kunze Germantown MD

SNOWatHOME,
My name is Paul Kunze and I am 16 years old and when I found out about making snow I was all for the idea. I am from Germantown Maryland and mainly enjoy things that have to do with water whether its frozen or not. Here in Maryland we do not get to much snow fall so I thought I would crank it up a notch with Snow at Home’s SG4 snow gun. I had already saved for a compressor, but first I would like to thank Matt for all the help on helping me choose a compressor. I probably called him almost daily because I would constantly think of questions to ask him. It would be something like “Hey Matt what about this…” or “Matt would it work if…” Many times I was often known as the compressor Guy.
Well anyway my parents had bought me the snow gun for Christmas but unfortunately I was away from home in Connecticut and the temperature were to warm. I couldn’t wait till I got home so I could start the snow gun up. The temperatures continued to stay in the forties so I just decided to test it with just the water even though it would not make snow. Finally I fired it up around four O’clock in the morning and ran it till about noon time. Man I was so surprised with the out put that it had. (The previous season I was using the SG t-type so it barely made an inch in 2 hours.) In those few 8 hours I probably put out a good 6-8 inch base and tried to make it sled able for my brother and our neighbors. (Averaging about 1-3 inches an hour)
If you’re reading this you probably are thinking this was a ton of snow but I was not finished. I started it up again about noon time on the following day and let it run till 6 o’clock and left my brother in charge while I had to go to ice hockey practice. When I had gotten home I found another 4-6 inches that had magically fell to the ground. By then I probably had a solid base of one foot all around. I attracted so many people even more than our Christmas lights which were always a big hit in our neighbor hood. I had so much snow that I had finally stopped measuring because I was just starting it up for a couple of hours each day just to had some of the snow that had melted. By the end of the week (Christmas Break) I had about 24inches in total.
Throughout the week I had gotten tired of sledding and I wanted to snow board really bad. I am a big skier and snow boarder so I decided to built a ramp which you probably saw in the photos, so that I could do this. I didn’t take any pictures of it, but since I live in a small area I moved all the snow making equipment to the back which was a little wider where I set out an 8 foot rail so I could at least board slide. I had started the snow Gun up at one O’clock and kept it running till about 8 and for some reason it put out more then I expected. I had a total of 12 inches in the center and an average of 9 inches. I started snow boarding right away because I had school the next morning. Through out this whole winter experience I had probably made more snow then Mother Nature had. We had only gotten 2 snow storms of about 4-5 inches a piece. Now with my snow gun I put Mother Nature to shame. Snow at home I do not know what I could have done with out one.
Natural Snow: 8-10 Inches
Machine Packed roughly: 26- 40 inches for total season fall ( Equipment- SG4 snow Gun, 1.6 GPM Husky pressure washer, and a craftsman 125 Psi, 1.8 Hp and 5.8 cfm @ 90psi)
I have one more story to conclude this awesome experience. One evening my neighbor’s wife was having a school meeting at there house and my neighbor said to her I am going to take the kids sledding. Everyone in his wife’s meeting looked at him and her and was basically like what planet is he going to. There was no snow anywhere besides the 24 inches in my front yard.
Thanks again Matt and all of Snow At Home.
Sincerely, Paul Kunze
